21st WSJ

It was so unreal. It felt like a fairy tale or a dream. I was actually helping out in the 21st World Scout Jamboree ay Hylands Park Chelmsford London. Unimaginable, its going to be archive as one of the richest memorable experience into my heart, mind and soul.

First of all, i would like to apologize for the lack of photos cause electrical supply is scarce. Well, actually expensive. It takes 3 pounds to charge an hour. That is essentially S$9.

On the 26th of July.
My mum suggested taking a cab to the airport with my Brother believing that S$16 was more then enough for a cab fare to the Airport. As the meter trickled away, it exceeded my budget and went all the way to S$19. Though Ron chipped in the extra S$3, i was left with no S$. So other then the long awaited check in, I was fooled to believe everyone was suppose to report at the actual time of 6am in the morning only to see about 5 Scouts out of the 50 odd. I waited. Waited. Continued to wait. Till about 7 where the crowd was seen. Anyhow, i shall not elaborate on that. I went of the Burger King with Daryl for Breakfast. It was his treat. LOL. Soon after, Stefanie came along with a small notebook as a gift which serve me quite well as i did not manage to obtain my International Service Team Handbook until the last day. It was nice of Daryl and Stefanie to send me off to London.

Before entry on to the plane, a few of us were startled with the task to activate auto roaming on to about 40- 50 sim cards. It was a phone crisis and i have never ever in my life taken out and placed in that many sim cards in that short period of time. Especially in a place where knifes are prohibited, my beret badge serve well. Anyway, the trip was long so i caught up with a few movies i missed and tried to catch some extra winks. The movies include Shrek 3, Just Follow Law, Protege and In the land of Woman. The meals i had on the plane was very much Asian before my last meal which was totally English. To complement that particular meal i called for a glass of French Red Wine to go with the Beef Steak. After that meal, i called for a glass of Singapore Sling as i have never ever tried before. The Stewardess looked at me and asked if i was under 18. Stunned and delighted, i replied that i was above 18 and smiled to myself. I felt so young at that point in time. LOL.

Upon reaching the airport, our Chief of World Village went missing or rather went ahead of us before anyone could realize that we were to stop at the nearest toilet and freshened ourselves up. After that, we met her at the immigration counter along with some friendly English people. It was long but great to some extent as we needed to waste time from 5pm all the way to 8pm

This was how the belts were lined up. Surprisingly, it had been reported before that luggages do go missing from here. After a 3omin break we set off from here to the exit of the arrival hall. To have our "Dinner".

Shopping at Marks & Spencer. The food was pricey but the drinks were really cheap relative to Singapore rates. For 89 or 99 pennies, you can get a 2 litre drink. On top of that, if you have selected promotional items, you can purchase the second bottle at half price. That is like about S$4.50 for 2 2 liter bottles. The sales assistant at the counter was nice enough to strike a conversation. She mentioned that we are not the first one there as she had seen quite a number of Scouts purchasing items from Marks & Spencer. I was so thrilled to know that.

This is where we gathered at LHR (London Heathrow). On top of having our meals, i was delighted to see some Hungarian Scouts dancing and singing away. We were invited to join them in their fun and songs. Oh what a great way to begin the jamboree. After they left, the Russians came over. Was it the Grammy awards? Soon after the russians started taking pictures, there was a whole commotion of flashes and people gathering outside the door. It went on for about 15 to 20 minutes. Lol. After that segment was over, the Africans as well as the Argentinians arrived. The airport was filled with so much colours. It was at this location i also met my first jamboree friend name Jae from Korea.

This was my lunch.

This was the coach that brought us to our campsite. As there was some space left, some Spanish and Italian scouts joined us on our journey. There was little talking done as everyone was rather tired and sleepy from the flight to London.

In the night with an almost full moon, we were registered at some airfield miles away from the campsite to prevent any form of intrusion. When we finally reached the jamboree area, the IST had to break away from the main contingent as there was a transport Van which would take us to the Adult Hub (Island Hub). It was about the wee hours of London and we were granted permission to use tents which have already been build up for the night. That was nice hospitality done there. We had a simple hot drink before turning in for the night.
